Its that time of year again when thousands of wannabe pop artists flock to studios nationwide, all for the golden four 'yes' approvals of
Simon Cowell and co. Last year, a staggering 11 million people stayed surgically attached to their
X Factor filled TV screens in anticipation for the next starlet of the British music scene.
Yet the percentage of successful careers, spawned from the show, are ultimately quite low. Take 2007 winner, for instance,
Leon Jackson. Even remember him?! The guy recorded one album with Sony before being dropped by the illustrious label, having sold just 130,000 copies. Runner-up
Rhydian, a Welsh operatic belter, managed to sell 500,000 of his debut, totally dwarfing the sales of the so called winner. Shouldn't it be the winner that reaps the benefits? Sad.
With
Leona Lewis now sweeping £1million off a show and seven songs, is it a safe statement to say that righteousness has been reinstalled? Are
JLS going to break the mould and become pop world overlords? Only time will tell, not forgetting your comments.
