Kanye West: Revolutionary Hip-Hop or Regular Flip Flop?

Kanye West's 808 & Heartbreak introduced a new breed of hip-hop - using the somewhat prehistoric sounds of the 808 kick throughout the whole album may have lost him a few hardcore fans; but I can see his motive.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, hip-hop does not really interest me any more. I'd rather listen to a bit of Pendulum or Frankmusik or sumpm. But that album brought with it a new perspective of the genre, a breath of fresh air that was needed. In that sense, I really respect West and his ability to manipulate them old school sounds into something good.

But, WHY USE AUTOTUNE?!?!?!

That thing just pisses me off whenever its used inappropriately. You can make a hit album without the use of that mechanical device; you'd never hear CL Smooth using a vocoder of any sort, so why now?

Make your decision...

For real, at times I don't know what Kanye was thinking with that album. He TOTALLY flipped the script LOL. But, have you got The Fugees 'The Score' album; that album is live + Lauryn Hill is just too nang. Whether it be singing or rapping =]
